What is fixed and what may change

Employees in Luxembourg are entitled to 11 legal public holidays a year under the Labour Code. Europe Day (9 May) is one of them. Easter Monday, Ascension and Whit Monday follow the Western calendar: 29 March, 6 May and 17 May in 2027.

Holidays are not moved to another date. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, employees get a compensatory day off. The same applies when it falls on a working day the employee would not have worked, such as a Saturday for a Monday to Friday schedule.

In 2027 this concerns 1 May and 25 December (Saturdays) and 9 May, 15 August and 26 December (Sundays). The compensatory day should in principle be given within 3 months after the holiday. If the business cannot allow this, it can be given until the end of the year, or until March of the next year for holidays in November and December.
