What is fixed and what may change

All dates follow from Law 7544 of 2025, which replaced the earlier holiday laws. Easter is on 28 March 2027, so Holy Thursday and Good Friday are on 25 and 26 March.

Four holidays are movable: 1 March, 12 June, 20 June and 29 September. Each year the government may move them by decree to the Monday before or after. There is no automatic rule, and in 2026 the decrees came only shortly before the dates. Until a decree is published, we show the dates set in the law.

Other holidays are not moved. In 2027, 1 May, 15 May and 25 December are Saturdays, and 15 August is a Sunday.

The government may also add up to three extra national holidays a year by decree, for example for tourism. It may declare days off (asuetos) for the public sector only; these are not holidays for private companies.
