What is fixed and what may change
All dates follow from article 74 of the Federal Labour Law. Three holidays are always on a Monday: the first Monday of February, the third Monday of March and the third Monday of November.
A holiday that falls on a weekend is not moved. In 2027, 1 May and 25 December are Saturdays.
Holy Thursday (25 March) and Good Friday (26 March) are not rest days under the law. An employer may still give them off, voluntarily or under a contract.
Article 74 also makes 1 October a rest day every six years when a new president takes office, and the day of an ordinary election where the electoral laws say so.
