What is fixed and what may change

Bosnia and Herzegovina has no state-wide law on holidays. The Federation of BiH, Republika Srpska and Brčko District each have their own rules. Only New Year (1 and 2 January) and Labour Day (1 and 2 May) are days off in all three. Other days apply in one part of the country only.

In 2027, 2 May falls on a Sunday. Under the rules of all three parts, Monday 3 May is a day off. Holidays that fall on a Saturday are not moved.

Religious holidays are not days off for everyone. In Republika Srpska believers have a right to paid leave on Christmas, Easter and the Bajrams. In the Federation employees may take up to four days a year for religious needs, two of them paid. The Islamic dates depend on the moon and are not yet confirmed.

Governments can add one-off days off. In 2026 the Federation government made 2 March a day off because Independence Day fell on a Sunday. Check the notices for the part of the country where your employees work.
